The Gemmological Association of Australia, New South Wales Division supports the study, understanding and professional practice of gemmology throughout New South Wales. Based at Gemmology House in Rozelle, Sydney, the division provides specialist education, practical facilities and industry resources for students, practising gemmologists, jewellers, valuers and gemstone enthusiasts.
Education is a major focus of the NSW Division, with courses available through Gem-Ed Australia and the state division covering areas such as gemmology, diamond studies and gemstone identification. Programs are designed to support both jewellery industry professionals and people seeking to develop a deeper understanding of gemstones.
The Rozelle facility was extensively renovated in 2021 and includes two laboratories, a main lecture room, student areas, a specialist library and dedicated diamond study facilities. Gemmology workstations are equipped with professional testing equipment including microscopes, refractometers, polariscopes and fibre optic lighting, giving students access to practical tools used in gemstone identification and assessment.
The division also maintains displays of minerals and gemstone specimens, providing additional opportunities for students and visitors to develop their knowledge of natural materials.
Through education, membership, professional development and industry engagement, the GAA New South Wales Division helps strengthen gemmological knowledge and professional standards within the state’s jewellery sector while providing an important Sydney-based hub for gemstone education and industry connection.
