The Gemmological Association of Australia, Queensland Division supports the study, understanding and professional practice of gemmology throughout Queensland. Based in Annerley, Brisbane, the division provides education, specialist facilities and industry resources for students, practising gemmologists, jewellers, valuers and anyone with a strong interest in gemstones and jewellery.
Education is a major focus of the Queensland Division. Through Gem-Ed Australia and the GAA, students can access courses covering gemmology, diamonds and practical gemstone identification. Training includes programs such as the Diploma in Gemmology, Practical Diamond Grading, Advanced Practical Diamond Grading and introductory gemmology courses designed for both industry professionals and enthusiastic beginners.
The Queensland facility includes a dedicated classroom where each student has access to essential gem-testing equipment including microscopes, refractometers, polariscopes and specialised light sources. Additional instruments and an extensive reference library support practical learning and deeper gemmological study.
The division also plays an important role in keeping members informed about developments within the gemstone and jewellery industries. Through education, membership, professional development and industry engagement, the GAA Queensland Division helps strengthen gemmological knowledge, ethical practice and professional standards across Queensland’s jewellery sector.
Its Brisbane facilities provide an important hub where students and professionals can develop practical skills, exchange knowledge and build a deeper understanding of diamonds, coloured gemstones and gemmology.
