About Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia - Queensland (JMGQ)
The Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia, Queensland Chapter (JMGQ) is a not-for-profit membership organisation supporting contemporary jewellers, metalsmiths and those with an interest in original jewellery and metalwork throughout Queensland.
The organisation traces its history to 1971, when the Queensland Jewellers Workshop was established as part of the Crafts Association of Queensland. At a time when formal jewellery education opportunities in the state were limited, the group played an important role in creating exhibitions, professional development opportunities and a network for emerging contemporary jewellery practitioners.
In 1980, the Queensland group became affiliated with similar organisations interstate and adopted the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Australia name. Since then, JMGQ has played an active role in Australia’s contemporary jewellery community, including hosting national conferences, coordinating exhibitions, supporting professional training and contributing to discussion around contemporary jewellery and metalsmithing practice.
Membership includes both established and emerging practitioners, as well as people interested in contemporary jewellery and metalwork. Through exhibitions, networking, education and professional development initiatives, JMGQ provides opportunities for members to showcase their work, exchange knowledge and strengthen connections within the creative jewellery community.
With a history extending over five decades, JMGQ continues to support the development, visibility and appreciation of contemporary jewellery and metalsmithing in Queensland and across Australia.
