The modern business was founded by Gerard McCabe and his wife Pauline in 1986, drawing on a family history that had already moved from retail and tailoring into jewellery, opals, manufacturing and valuation. Gerard McCabe opened in Adelaide Arcade in 1989 and has since become one of Adelaide’s best-known independent fine-jewellery names.

Gerard himself is a gemmologist, diamond technologist and jewellery valuer, and the company has built its identity around expert gemstone knowledge, design and high-quality manufacture. Engagement and wedding rings are a major focus, alongside natural diamonds, coloured gemstones, antique and vintage jewellery and one-off bespoke commissions.

The design side of the business has received repeated national and international recognition, including Australian Jewellery Awards across several categories.
