About Embella
Embella is an Australian jewellery brand founded by designer and maker Sally Willsher, whose connection with jewellery began in childhood. Growing up in Warrnambool, Sally started making small bracelets at around seven years old and selling them through her father’s shop. At 16 she registered her first business, Sally’s Coastal Beads, before taking her work onto the festival and market circuit.
That travelling creative life eventually led Sally and her husband Ross to Darwin, where Embella became closely connected with the Mindil Beach and Parap markets. The couple fell in love with the Top End and opened Embella’s first boutique in Darwin’s Star Village Arcade in 2012. The business now has a presence in both Darwin and Yamba.
Embella’s jewellery is strongly influenced by ocean, travel and bohemian design. Collections include necklaces, bracelets, anklets, earrings, rings and wraps, with sterling silver, pearls, stones and other materials selected for pieces intended to fit an active coastal lifestyle. Many designs are handmade in Australia, and the brand places emphasis on water-friendly jewellery.
Sustainability is also reflected in Embella’s repair philosophy. Rather than treating damaged jewellery as disposable, the business promotes repair and rejuvenation where possible.
For Darwin customers, Embella offers more than a conventional jewellery store. It is a locally rooted design business shaped by markets, travel and hand making, with a recognisable coastal identity and a founder story that has developed from childhood creativity into more than two decades of jewellery design and retail.
