About Precious Repairs

Precious Repairs is a Ferntree Gully jewellery workshop and boutique with more than 16 years of history in the Mountain Gate area. As its name suggests, repair and restoration are central to the business, but the team also undertakes remodelling, custom jewellery, valuations and a range of maintenance services. The focus is on extending the life of jewellery, particularly pieces that carry sentimental value and cannot simply be replaced.

Owner René McCarthy originally trained in the same store as an apprentice before eventually taking over the business. The wider team includes qualified jewellers, gemmologists and diamond technologists with decades of trade experience. That depth of workshop knowledge allows Precious Repairs to work on a broad variety of jewellery rather than functioning only as a drop-off point for outsourced repairs.

Services include ring and jewellery repairs, resizing, stone work, remodelling, rhodium plating, pearl and bead rethreading, cleaning and polishing, watch battery and band work, and jewellery valuations. Customers can also commission custom pieces, including engagement and wedding jewellery, or choose from a small selection of hand-picked and handmade stock.

Remodelling is particularly important to the studio’s approach. Inherited or unworn jewellery can be assessed to determine whether it is best repaired, restored or transformed into a new design while retaining original stones or precious metals.
