About Tinkers Repair Centre

Tinkers Repair Centre is a long-running Ferntree Gully family business built around practical repair skills and traditional jewellery services. Owner and jeweller Alex has been serving Ferntree Gully and surrounding suburbs since 1988, developing the business into a local workshop where customers can bring jewellery for repair, restoration, remodelling or complete custom manufacture.

A key point of difference is that jewellery work is carried out on site. Tinkers says customers can see the manufacturing process rather than having pieces routinely sent away, which can be reassuring when the item is valuable or sentimental. Alex works with customers who want to create a new piece from their own idea, redesign older jewellery, restore antique items or bring worn pieces back into usable condition. The service list also includes valuations, insurance quotes, engraving and jewellery sales.

Tinkers is broader than a conventional jewellery shop. The same business also provides watch and clock repairs, key cutting, shoe repairs and clothing alterations, making it a genuine multi-service repair centre. Its watch services range from battery and glass replacement through to more involved servicing of modern and antique timepieces.

The jewellery side remains strongly workshop-led. For customers with inherited gold, damaged rings, pieces needing resizing or a design they want made from scratch, Tinkers offers direct access to an experienced jeweller. Its long history in the same local community reflects a business model based on repair, reuse, craftsmanship and ongoing relationships rather than one-off retail transactions.
