Custom jewellery design covers everything from concept to finished piece. Many jewellers can guide you through stone and metal options, then create made-to-order designs to suit your style and budget.
Allgem is a family-owned business that has served Perth's retail jewellers since 1970. Allgem founders, the Gryg family, count themselves as experts in the Australian opal prize. Abraham and Bess Gryg began mining precious gems in 1960, travelling to Queensland mines including Anakie, Sapphire, Emerald, as well as Rubyvale, in search of sapphire.
They also traveled to Lightning Ridge, Australia, searching for black Australian opals and then to Coober Pedy and Andamooka, Australia, in search of white Australian opals. The state of Western Australia was eventually the choice, and they set up business as wholesalers, supplying retail jewellers, cutting precious gems, and completing jewellery work in the 1970s.
Joseph and Bessie Gryg paired with their son Alfie have extensive training and experience with precious gems and Australian opals, and have qualification in the fields of Master Jewellers, Gemmologists, Registered Valuers and Diamond Graders. Joseph Gryg completed Fellowship of the Gemmological Association of Australia (FGAA) in 1974 and was president of the Gemmological Association of Western Australia for two years.
Bessie Gryg was the top graduate in Australia when she in 1977 completed her Diploma of Gemmology at the Gemmological Institute of America. Bessie also studied jewellery design at the Gemmological Institute of America, and she received her British Gemmological Diploma (FAG).
Alfie Gryg completed his Diploma in Gemmology in 2005 and also served as president of the Gemmological Association of Western Australia for two years just like his father.
