Australian Jewellery Directory Report 2026
A factual snapshot of where jewellery businesses and services are listed across Australia
Snapshot date: 18 July 2026
KEY FINDINGS
Jewellink contained 2,341 published jewellery listings at the time of this snapshot. Those listings were associated with 810 populated location terms across Australia.
The directory recorded 2,314 assignments to standard state and territory location labels. New South Wales accounted for the largest number with 787, followed by Victoria with 586 and Queensland with 439.
Jewellink listings can belong to more than one service category. The most common category assignment was Shop, attached to 2,170 listings. Online Shop appeared on 1,411 listings, Design on 874, Valuation on 662, Repairs on 621 and Gemstone Sourcing on 32.
The directory had 47 active brand terms. A total of 1,303 published listings were assigned a brand term.
This report is a snapshot of Jewellink’s directory, not an official census of the Australian jewellery industry. It does not estimate revenue, employment, market value or consumer demand.
ABOUT THE DATA
Jewellink is an Australian directory for jewellers, designers, valuers, repair specialists and related jewellery services. This report summarises non-sensitive aggregate records from the live Jewellink production database as at 18 July 2026.
The unit counted is a published directory listing. A listing is not necessarily equivalent to a unique legal entity. A business with several locations may have several listings, while a business that is not yet included in Jewellink will not appear in the data.
Location figures are taxonomy assignments used by the directory. Service figures are category assignments. Because a listing may offer several services, category counts overlap and must not be added together to calculate the number of businesses.
The state and territory table includes 2,314 listings attached to standard state-coded location labels. The remaining 27 published listings were not included in that table because their location labels were online-only or used a non-standard format at the snapshot date.
DIRECTORY SCALE
Published listings: 2,341
Populated location terms: 810
Standard state and territory assignments: 2,314
Active brand terms: 47
Listings assigned a brand term: 1,303
The 810 populated location terms show that the directory extends well beyond capital-city centres. The count includes suburbs, cities and online-only location labels used for discovery within Jewellink.
A brand term was attached to 1,303 listings, equal to 55.7 per cent of all published listings. This does not mean the remaining listings are all independent businesses. It means only that no active brand term was assigned to those directory records at the snapshot date.
STATE AND TERRITORY DISTRIBUTION
State or territory | Standard location assignments | Share of standard assignments
New South Wales | 787 | 34.0%
Victoria | 586 | 25.3%
Queensland | 439 | 19.0%
Western Australia | 245 | 10.6%
South Australia | 120 | 5.2%
Tasmania | 58 | 2.5%
Australian Capital Territory | 47 | 2.0%
Northern Territory | 32 | 1.4%
Total | 2,314 | 100.0%
New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland together accounted for 1,812 standard state-coded assignments. That is 78.3 per cent of the state and territory table.
These figures describe Jewellink’s coverage. They should not be interpreted as the true number or market share of jewellery businesses operating in each jurisdiction. Differences may reflect population, retail concentration and the directory’s current collection and verification coverage.
TOP LOCALITY TERMS
Locality term | Published listings
Melbourne, VIC 3000 | 111
Sydney, NSW 2000 | 97
Perth, WA 6000 | 27
Brisbane, QLD 4000 | 23
Parramatta, NSW 2150 | 20
Adelaide, SA 5000 | 19
Chadstone, VIC 3148 | 17
Broadbeach, QLD 4218 | 16
Miranda, NSW 2228 | 16
Hobart, TAS 7000 | 16
Melbourne and Sydney were the two largest locality terms in the directory. Together they contained 208 listings. The appearance of Parramatta, Chadstone, Broadbeach and Miranda in the top ten also shows that Jewellink discovery is not limited to central business districts.
A locality count reflects listings assigned to that exact location term. It is not a count for the entire metropolitan area. For example, listings in Melbourne suburbs outside postcode 3000 are recorded under their own locality terms.
SERVICE COVERAGE
Category | Listing assignments | Share of all published listings
Shop | 2,170 | 92.7%
Online Shop | 1,411 | 60.3%
Design | 874 | 37.3%
Valuation | 662 | 28.3%
Repairs | 621 | 26.5%
Gemstone Sourcing | 32 | 1.4%
These percentages intentionally add to more than 100 per cent because categories overlap. A jeweller may operate a physical shop, accept online enquiries, design custom pieces, repair jewellery and offer valuation services under the same listing.
The overlap is useful for consumers because it reflects the range of services attached to each directory profile. It is also useful for researchers, provided the figures are treated as service assignments rather than separate businesses.
The Shop category was present on 2,170 listings, or 92.7 per cent of all published records. Online Shop appeared on 1,411 listings, or 60.3 per cent. This category indicates that online shopping or online service information was recorded on the listing; it does not measure ecommerce revenue or online sales activity.
Design appeared on 874 listings. Valuation appeared on 662 and Repairs on 621. These counts show substantial directory coverage for services that extend beyond retail discovery. They do not indicate the volume of work performed or the number of qualified practitioners.
Gemstone Sourcing appeared on 32 listings. This narrower category should be read as an explicit directory tag, not as a complete count of Australian businesses that can source gemstones.
WHAT THE REPORT CAN SHOW
This dataset can show:
– the number of published records visible in Jewellink on the snapshot date;
– how those listings are distributed across Jewellink’s standard state and territory labels;
– which exact locality terms contain the most directory listings;
– how frequently major service categories are assigned; and
– how many listings have an active brand taxonomy assignment.
The data can support location research, service discovery, directory coverage analysis and media reporting about the composition of Jewellink’s listings.
WHAT THE REPORT CANNOT SHOW
This dataset cannot establish:
– the official number of jewellery businesses in Australia;
– industry revenue, market size or employment;
– consumer spending or purchasing behaviour;
– the market share of a brand or region;
– business quality, licensing or professional accreditation;
– whether every listed business is currently trading; or
– growth in the broader Australian jewellery market.
Jewellink continuously adds, updates, verifies and moderates directory records. Counts may change after the snapshot date.
METHODOLOGY
Jewellink queried aggregate records from its production WordPress database on 18 July 2026.
The total listing count included records with the job listing content type and published status.
Location coverage was calculated from populated region taxonomy terms. The standard state and territory table grouped location terms containing recognisable Australian state or territory abbreviations. Online-only and malformed or non-standard labels were excluded from that table.
Service coverage was calculated from published listing assignments to the Shop, Online Shop, Design, Valuation, Repairs and Gemstone Sourcing categories.
Brand coverage counted active brand taxonomy terms and distinct published listings assigned to any active brand term.
Percentages were calculated from the published listing total for service categories and from the standard state-coded assignment total for jurisdictions. Values are rounded to one decimal place.
No personal customer data, private business information, enquiry records, order data or account information was used.
