Kersee Ferrer-Maghirang 1 ★ 2026-01-12I bring in 6.3 grams of gold to a goldsmith and asked him to remake my gold-plated ring into real gold. He told me the ring would be made as 5 grams, so I expected to still have about 1 gram of gold left. When I picked up the ring, he said the new ring weighed only 3.15 grams and claimed the missing gold was lost because gold u201cflies awayu201d during melting and polishing. I paid $600 for the melting and remaking service, and it was never explained to me that I could lose around 50% of the gold in the process
