About Sargisons

Sargisons is a family-owned manufacturing jeweller and workshop with a history in Hobart dating back to 1905. Founded by Harold Frances Sargison after he completed his apprenticeship, the business has become one of Tasmania’s best-known traditional jewellery workshops and describes itself as the state’s oldest manufacturing jeweller. Its long history is matched by a continued focus on making and repairing jewellery on site.

The current Sargisons team includes experienced jewellers, gemmologists, diamond graders and valuers. The workshop creates bespoke fine jewellery, with particular expertise in engagement rings, wedding bands and custom diamond or gemstone pieces. Traditional goldsmithing and silversmithing techniques sit alongside modern jewellery methods, allowing the team to work with precious metals, diamonds, pearls and coloured gemstones.

Sargisons is also well established in restoration and remodelling. Customers can bring in heirloom or damaged jewellery for repair, careful restoration or a complete redesign that retains the materials and meaning of an older piece. The business also offers jewellery valuations, with an on-site valuer associated with the National Council of Jewellery Valuers.

More than a century after its founding, Sargisons remains closely connected to Tasmanian jewellery making. For customers, its appeal is the combination of a genuine working workshop, deep local history and the ability to deal directly with people who design, make, repair and assess fine jewellery rather than sending those services elsewhere.
